Instructor Development Classes

There will be an Instructor Development class at White Pass in April 2012 and another one is in the planning at Summit West sometime this season.

One of the prerequisites for becoming a certified instructor in any NSP discipline is to
take the Instructor Development course. This course teaches various teaching
techniques and also the administrative process required of Instructors who teach NSP training courses.

The ID course can be taken two different ways:  1) a traditional class (classroom training) about 10 hrs. and 2) an On-line class.   The on-line class has two parts, the first part is completed on-line from the NSP website.  Upon completion the student prints and sends their on-line certificate to the PNW Division ID Supervisor, this supervisor will assign an appropriate ID instructor to work with the student on part two of the program.  Part two consists of a) learning the NSP administrative processes for educational programs and b) fine tuning and practicing lesson plan writing and presentation /practice teaching of that lesson plan.   Once all is completed the ID instructor will notify the Division ID Supervisor and he/she will complete the course completion paperwork to give the student ID course completion credit.

TES/SES/STW at Mt. Baker
It is time for third installment of spring clinics at Mt. Baker. Patrollers have been asking for a
Toboggan Enhancement Seminar in the spring instead of traveling to Mt. Hood in June. This year we will be holding a TES, a SES, and STW. These will be held at Mt. Baker on April 10 and 11, 2010.

We are offering the TES on both Saturday and Sunday. This year the SES will be on Sat. the 10th and the STW will be on Sun. the 11th.  Check out the flyer for more details.

  • To attend the STW you need to be an S&T trainer and have recently taken an SES.
  • To attend the TES you need to be toboggan certified prior to attending.
  • The SES session is open to all patrollers on alpine skis or tele skis.

These clinics count for senior electives, so if you need one or two, here is your chance!

Who Are We?

NSP LogoThe Northwest Region is located in the Pacific Northwest Division of the National Ski Patrol (NSP).  The region contains 9 different patrols throughout western Washington.

The National Ski Patrol, founded in 1938, has followed its creed of "Service and Safety" since the establishment of skiing as a popular sport in the United States. As snowsports and guest services at areas have evolved over the years, so has the NSP, from a service organization to a modern-day professional education association.

Today the organization is composed of more than 26,000 members serving over 600 patrols. These individuals include alpine, snowboard, and nordic patrollers who are paid or who volunteer their time throughout the United States and at certain military areas in Europe.
